The framework

Quantum Elemental
Model™

Two people can have the same diagnosis, follow the same protocol, eat the same food — and respond completely differently. The QEM™ framework explains why, and builds treatment specific to each person’s elemental profile, timing, and seasonal pressures.

Overview

One framework.
Many layers.

Classical Chinese medicine has always worked with constitutional types — the recognition that a person’s fundamental nature shapes how disease develops, how they respond to treatment, and what will actually work long-term. QEM™ takes that principle seriously and builds it into a structured clinical method.

The framework integrates classical Five Element theory — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water — with BaZi natal chart analysis to produce a constitutional map specific to each person’s date, time, and place of birth. This elemental fingerprint shapes how you process food, handle stress, which organs are under load, and which seasons tend to destabilise you.

On top of the natal constitution, QEM™ layers current elemental cycle analysis — the ten-year Luck Pillar and the annual elemental energies — to identify which pressures are active now. The result is treatment that is specific to you: constitutional, temporal, and precise.

Why the same condition presents differently

IBS in a Wood constitution is Liver-Spleen disharmony. In an Earth constitution it is Spleen Qi deficiency with dampness. Same diagnosis — different root — different formula.

Why the same treatment doesn’t work for everyone

A herb that strengthens one constitutional type may overwhelm another. Your ten-year elemental cycle determines which organs are under pressure right now.

What it means in practice

Constitutional assessment precedes all treatment decisions. The pattern comes first. The formula and acupuncture protocol follow from the pattern — specific to you.

Foundation

The Five Elements.

Each element governs organ systems, emotions, tissues, seasonal vulnerabilities, and directions of energy movement. Your constitutional type reflects which element is dominant in your natal chart.

Assessment layers

Every layer
of the picture.

01
Intake & presenting complaint

Duration, progression, triggers, seasonal patterns, and treatment history.

02
Tongue & observation

Tongue body colour, coat, moisture, shape, and markings. Via photograph in virtual consultations.

03
Constitutional inquiry

Sleep, digestion, energy, temperature regulation, emotional patterns, and seasonal response.

04
Pulse (adapted virtually)

Resting heart rate and self-reported cardiovascular indicators within CTCMPAO telepractice guidelines.

05
BaZi natal chart

Date, time, and location of birth plotted into a Four Pillars chart. Reveals natal elemental distribution.

06
Current elemental cycle

Ten-year Luck Pillar and annual energies overlaid onto the natal chart. Identifies what is under pressure now.

Common questions

What people ask
before they begin.

No. The constitutional assessment produces a clinical picture regardless of belief. The formulas are pharmacologically active. The element analysis identifies which organ systems are under load. Neither requires belief — they require accurate observation and appropriate treatment selection.
For constitutional and herbal medicine work, yes — with appropriate adaptations. Tongue assessment via photograph is reliable. Constitutional inquiry is unaffected by medium. Pulse is partially adapted. Acupuncture cannot be replicated virtually and is available in-person at two Ontario locations.
Birth time is preferred and produces a more precise chart. If unavailable, a three-pillar analysis (Year, Month, Day) still provides significant constitutional information. Approximately one third of patients don’t know their birth time — this does not prevent a meaningful assessment.
Acute presentations typically respond within five to fourteen days. Chronic conditions usually require two to four months of consistent treatment before the underlying pattern shifts. The trajectory matters more than the speed of initial response.
Yes. Disclose all medications at intake so herb-drug interactions can be assessed individually. Formulas are adjusted accordingly.
